Interior

Your new CX-9 will have seating for six or seven, depending on whether you go with second-row captain's chairs. No matter which style second-row seating you choose, the third row is easy to access for the kids. Luxury interior features, like heated front seats and power-adjustment for the driver, are standard for all models. At the Grand Touring level, ventilation also is added to those front seats and a heated steering wheel.

Technology

The team at Napleton's Palatine Mazda loves the standard and available tech for the CX-9. The entry-level model knows as the Sport comes fully loaded with things like a 7-inch touchscreen, two USB ports, voice recognition, and Bluetooth. All other models upgrade to a 9-inch touchscreen and throw in smartphone capability with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A six-speaker sound system is a standard while a premium Bose system with 12-speakers is also available.

Performance

There is one great engine for all new models of the Mazda CX-9. You'll find a turbocharged 2.5L four-cylinder making 227-horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque for your travels around Arlington Heights. Fill your CX-9 with premium gasoline and those numbers jump up to 250-horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. When this SUV is properly equipped, you will find it can tow up to 3,500 pounds.

You will find that front-wheel-drive is the standard on most models. They can also be upgraded to all-wheel-drive, which comes standard for the Signature trim level. Any model that has the AWD is also equipped with Off-Road Traction Assist, a handy feature that can send torque to the necessary wheels to prevent a loss of traction.

Safety

Families should check out the new CX-9 since i-Activsense is now standard on all models. This handy bundle of advanced driver aids includes things like lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control featuring stop-and-go technology. You even get a blind spot monitor, complete with rear cross-traffic alert.

There are several other noteworthy safety features that are standard for this vehicle, including rain-sensing windshield wipers, traffic sign recognition, and a rearview camera. Select models go with a surround-view camera system instead. Adaptive headlights, parking sensors in both the front and the back, are available also.

Trim Levels

Which of the four trim levels of the CX-9 is ideal for you? It can be difficult to decide, considering how well-equipped this SUV is. For many, the entry-level Sport will have the features they are after. It comes with things like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, 18-inch alloy wheels, and all of those standard tech and safety features mentioned above.

The second option, called the Touring, gets the larger touchscreen and smartphone integration, as well as two extra USB ports and a power liftgate. As for the Grand Touring trim level, it gets even more luxurious by adding things navigation, the premium Bose sound system, 20-inch wheels, and the surround-view camera system.

For your final option, there is the Mazda CX-9 Signature trim. Here is where you will find touches like leather upholstery and wood accents throughout the cabin. On the outside, this trim level shows off stylish LED lighting in the grille. This is the trim that comes exclusively with all-wheel-drive. It is also only available with the second-row captain's chairs, making its maximum seating capacity.
